05.05.10 – jason’s ultimate nu-rock ill-advised pop-punk playlist
So you know what’s cool about my life? Aside from, you know, EVERYTHING and how I just spent like, a week in motherfucking PARIS and then flew to VANCOUVER to be in a MOVIE which is how I’m mostly spending my spring/summer before I figure out what the fuck else I’m going to do with my damn self? Basically everything. My bad, I kind of summarized all the awesome shit in one go there and completely forgot that I sort of planned on making a like grandiose~ comparison or whatever. Okay, but oh! The other thing that is sort of cool about my life is DIRECTING THINGS and knowing all these musical people and somehow being involved in their creative processes when I really have no actual authority~ to do so, so IN THE SPIRIT of all the musicians I know, here is a totally unrelated top five of my favorite turn of the century music videos because I feel the urge~~~ to do so. OR: supersecretfunfacts – when I work/film/shoot in places that are not, you know, the soundstage where I basically live out my days 24/7 with Shemar and Paget and the baby cult we qualify as at this point in our lives, I actually compose themed mixes that I listen to so that I can, you know, get in the mood~ Think of it like having a sexy slowjam mix tape except it’s me and I’m not having a sexy time (EXCEPT I AM) and instead of like, Marvin Gaye it’s people with really tragic spikey hair and such as was acceptable in 2000.
1. The Offspring – Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
This is basically my life except with a do-rag.
2. Lit – Miserable
There was a time when I just sort of wanted to like, make a tiny (huge) nest of all the Pam Anderson memorabilia in the world and just like roll around in it while clutching a homemade Baywatch VHS to my chest.
3. Eve 6 – Inside Out
So ANECDOTE TIME when I was in high school AP English because I totally did go to high school sometimes, just not the prom or anything super awkward like that, this guy essentially printed out the lyrics from this song and the song that is about to come below it and wrote them on a looseleaf or five and handed them in as ~original poetry~ to a teacher who, you know, OWNED A RADIO at the time, thus heard these SUPER POPULAR SONGS and was like wtf, guy? (WHOSE NAME I REMEMBER but am not releasing so as to protect his lame ass from internet shame).
4. Incubus – Wish You Were Here
SEE ABOVE.
5. Korn – Falling Away From Me
There’s no actual amazing and creative anecdote to throw in on this one, it was just my favorite song during my senior year and sometimes when I’m wondering what the fuck I have left in me to throw on celluloid these days, I like to sit down in a dark room with the heat turned way up and like, get under a desk or something and listen to this like the whole world was actually still that small and stupidly cloying. I’m so fucking method. And I get that this song is the most LOLS INAPPROPRIATE one to ever have this association with, but fuck it, this is still where I go musically~ when times get rough.
